Impacted Twenty-Year Operation

When teeth are unable to emerge into the mouth due to various reasons, they are referred to as “impacted teeth.” Third molars (also known as wisdom teeth or third molars) are the most commonly impacted teeth. If there is no room in the mouth for the eruption of third molars, and/or if a person has reached the age of 25 without the teeth erupting, these teeth are considered “impacted.” Sometimes these teeth partially erupt, but they never reach the occlusal plane (chewing plane) level where they should be. If your third molars have not erupted yet, you can visit your dentist to learn about the situation and ensure the extraction of the impacted teeth to prevent problems such as pain, joint disorders, swelling, infection, decay, and gum diseases that impacted teeth may cause before they manifest.

Apical Resection Operations

What is Apical Resection?

It is the removal of a cyst or infection at the root tip of a tooth along with one-third of the tooth root.

When is Apical Resection Performed?

It is performed in cases of cysts or infections in the tooth root that do not resolve with root canal treatment.

In some cases where there is a certain level of root fracture due to trauma to the tooth, apical resection may also be considered.

If the tooth has not completed root development and root canal treatment is necessary, it can be done to seal the root end of the tooth.

Apical resection may be performed when the root structure and shape of the tooth do not allow root canal treatment to be performed to the root tip.

Cyst Operations

A cyst is defined as an abnormal formation appearing as a void that develops in the roots of teeth or any part of the jawbone. Cyst surgery is a necessary procedure, and unfortunately, healing cannot be achieved solely with medication. Therefore, they need to be surgically removed from their location as determined by dentists.

If cyst operations are not performed promptly and the cyst remains in the jawbone for a long time, it can lead to serious deformations of the jawbone. Therefore, identified cysts should be surgically removed as soon as possible. Regular follow-up checks after the surgical procedure are crucial. In this way, the healing process of the bone loss caused by the cyst should be monitored.

Jaw Joint Treatments

What is the Jaw Joint?

Our jaw joint is located just in front of our ear. It is the most important part of the functioning of the lower jaw. The main function of the joint is to connect the freely moving bone, the lower jaw, to the skull. For the jaw to open and close, there is cartilage between two bone surfaces (lower jaw and skull). It is very important for jaw joint health that this cartilage remains in place and intact.

Jaw Joint Diseases or Disorders

Commonly, when opening and closing the mouth, there may be sounds or clicks, sometimes there are restrictions or pain during opening. There are many factors that can cause this condition. Listing these factors:

  • Major Traumas (car accidents or a strong blow to the jaw)
  • Minor Traumas (parafunctional movements, i.e., clenching, grinding teeth, prolonged gum chewing)
  • Long-term unilateral chewing due to missing teeth on one side
  • Structural abnormalities in teeth and jaws (malocclusion, open bite, deep or overbite, excessive protrusion or retrusion of the lower jaw).

Tooth Extraction

Extraction of the tooth is performed when the tissues surrounding the tooth are severely damaged after extensive decay or trauma, and the tooth cannot be treated in any way considering the patient’s health.
